IP CCTV has been available for years , but it is only more recently that the technology has matured, leading to the developments in Megapixel and High Definition imaging.
The systems work by turning images and audio into data, before transmitting this data over a network. This allows greater flexibility, better image performance and potentially easier installation.
As IP CCTV systems convert all images to data, they have no theoretical limit to resolution, providing the relevant bandwidth to transmit the images exists. The data can realistically be transmitted to any location for storage and playback, without the need to provide dedicated cabling. Utilising Power over Ethernet ( PoE ) cameras and switches can also eliminate the need for local power supplies, reducing the cost of installation even further.
These systems communicate via standard networks utilising standard network protocols, therefore allowing them to co-exist with other systems. These other systems, such as Access Control and PA VA systems can be linked to provide site wide control and a totally holistic approach to security management.
